WISE – UVA Wise volleyball student-athletes
Riley Brandon,
Cassidy Farley, and
Kaylee Scarce have been named to the College Sports Communicators 2024 Academic All-District® Volleyball Team for their combined performances on the court and in the classroom. The organization sponsors teams at all three NCAA Divisions and the NAIA and released the teams earlier today.
To be nominated, the student-athlete must be at least a sophomore athletically and academically, have at least a 3.50 cumulative grade point average, and compete in at least 90 percent of the team's matches or start in at least 66 percent of the team's matches this season. A maximum of four volleyball student-athletes may be nominated each year.
Brandon, a sophomore setter/outside hitter from Kingsport, Tennessee, had a breakout season in 2024 as she was second on the team in kills (2.55 per set), third in assists (1.36 per set), fifth in blocks (0.54 per set), and seventh in digs (1.43 per set). She also made history when she had the program's first-ever triple-double with 16 kills, 13 assists and 19 digs at Limestone on September 20. She had two more double-doubles during the season and was one of only eleven players at the Division II level to have multiple triple-doubles this past season. She is majoring in Psychology.
Farley rewrote the volleyball record book in several categories during her five seasons in Wise. The Abingdon, Virginia, native and Criminal Justice major led the team and the South Atlantic Conference in blocks per set with 1.30. That also ranked the middle hitter seventeenth in Division II. Last season she became the program's NCAA-era single-season and career leader in several blocking categories. She also was fourth on the team in kills (1.51 kills per set) and fifth in aces (0.20 aces per set). She finishes her UVA Wise career with 461 kills, 45 aces, 230 digs, 107 solo blocks, 260 block assists, and 367 total blocks.
Scarce becomes the first UVA Wise volleyball player to repeat as Academic All-District as she also earned the honor in 2022. The senior outside hitter/defensive specialist from Dry Fork, Virginia, led the team in kills with 3.08 kills per set last season. That also ranked her third in the SAC in that category. She was also third in the SAC in total attacks (1,003) and fifth in points per set (3.38). She finished her career with 862 kills; 53 aces; 80 total blocks; and 1,004 digs, passing the 1,000 dig mark during the final match of her career. Rankings-wise she finished seventh in kills, sixth in attacks (3,048), and eighth in digs. Scarce is majoring in Management Information Systems.
