WISE – The UVA Wise baseball team won their fourth straight South Atlantic Conference series as they bounced back from a game one loss to Anderson on Saturday to defeat the Trojans in both games of Sunday's doubleheader.
With the series win, they set a new record for series wins since joining the SAC in 2020, surpassing the three wins last year. They also have tied their record of conference wins in SAC play in a season with the eight they had last year as well.
The team is receiving votes in the most recent American Baseball Coaches Association and D2 Baseball Polls and is ranked regionally in the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association Southeast Regional. The new polls will be released Wednesday.

GAME ONE
- Anderson took the lead in the second inning with a two run double before exploding for four more runs in the fourth and another run in the fifth.

Jake Weaver scored the first run for the Cavs as he was driven in by
DJ Dickson in the fifth inning.
- After two more Trojan runs crossed the plate in the sixth inning,
Joshua Morgan scored via an RBI single from
Morgan Miller in the bottom of the inning. The Trojans then added insurance runs in the seventh and ninth innings to take the 11-2 win.
- Morgan and Weaver led the team as they both went 2-4 in the game, while Dickson was 2-5. Dickson and Miller had the two RBI for the Cavs.
GAME TWO
- The Trojans scored first in Sunday's opening game from a sacrifice fly in the first inning. The Cavs answered back in the second with a solo home run from
Jake Smith and a 2 RBI double by
Jeb Hurst that scored Miller and
Bernard Creque.
- The Cavs added a run in the third, three runs via a Dickson home run in the fourth, and another run in the fifth.
- The Trojans had two more unanswered runs in the sixth and another solo home run in the eighth inning, but an insurance run by Miller in the seventh from a sacrifice fly by Dickson put the lead a five and the Cavs went on to win 9-4.
- Dickson was 1-4 with four RBI, while Hurst was 3-4 and Morgan and Smith were 2-4 each. Miller scored three times and Hurst twice.
Justin Snider earned the win for the Cavs as he went for 6.0 innings and had two earned runs off of seven hits.
Nash Bingham picked up the save as he entered in the seventh and finished the game with one run and two hits while striking out five Trojan batters.
GAME THREE
- The Trojans took the 2-1 lead as they scored twice in the third inning, answered by a Hurst run from a RBI double by
Jacob Boyle in the bottom of the third.
- Dickson tripled in the fifth to score
Nick Badgett while Boyle hit a sacrifice fly to score Dickson later in the inning.
- The Cavs added an insurance run in the sixth inning when Dickson singled to left field and the ball was misplayed, allowing Hurst to score from first base after reaching by a walk. They then held off a late rally by Anderson to take the 4-2 victory and win the series.
- Dickson was 2-4 with a RBI, while Boyle was 2-2 with two RBI.
Houston Sarvis claimed the win to go to 3-0 on the season as he went 5.1 innings, allowing two runs off of four hits with three strikeouts.
Ryan Whitson came in for the seventh inning and only allowed one walk and struck out one batter to earn his third save of the season.
UP NEXT
The Cavs will host local rival Emory & Henry in a non-conference game Tuesday afternoon at four p.m. They will then have a couple of days off before nationally-ranked Catawba comes to Wise for a weekend SAC series beginning Friday afternoon.
