JEFFERSON CITY, TN – For the third consecutive weekend, UVA Wise took on a nationally ranked opponent in a South Atlantic Conference baseball series. The Cavalier defense committed just one error in the series, as the pitching staff gave up just 12 runs across the three games. After dropping game one on Friday, the Cavs responded with a split of the doubleheader Saturday, improving to 21-15 (10-11 SAC)

GAME ONE (UVA Wise 2, Carson-Newman 6):
-The Cavaliers struck first against the top pitching staff in the South Atlantic Conference as 
Jacob Boyle came in to score on a passed ball before a 
Matt Frye sacrifice fly to centerfield plated 
Joshua Morgan in the fourth inning.
-UVA Wise Starting Pitcher Spencer fired six innings allowing just six hits and one earned run, departing with a 2-1 after six.
-In the seventh inning, Eagle First Baseman Logan Floyd hit a 3-run homerun, giving Carson-Newman a lead they would not relinquish.   
 
GAME TWO (UVA Wise 5, Carson-Newman 1):
-The UVA Wise bats heated up in game two as 
Jeb Hurst, Josh Morgan, and 
DJ Dickson all homered for the Cavs, providing five runs for the visitors.
-
Jeb Hurst got the scoring started for the Cavs in the third inning. After fouling off several pitches, Hurst connected on a 3-2 pitch, sending it over the left field wall, and putting the Cavs ahead 2-0, in a game they would never trail in.
-Ryan Jenkins homered for the Eagles in the fifth inning cutting the lead to 2-1, but that was as close as the Eagles would get.

Justin Snider, 
Ethan Willis, and 
Ryan Whitson combined to allow just five hits in the game, and only one run against the SAC-leading Eagles. 
Ethan Willis earned his second win of the season with 2.1 innings in relief, before handing the ball to 
Ryan Whitson who fired the final 2.1 innings to earn his fourth save of the season.
 
GAME THREE (UVA Wise 1, Carson-Newman 5):
-In the rubber match, 
Nick Badgett launched a first inning homerun, providing the Cavs with an early 1-0 lead.
-Carson-Newman answered in the bottom half of the first with four runs of their own.
-Cavalier Starting Pitcher 
Houston Sarvis settled in after the first inning, throwing a complete game, while striking out seven and allowing just one run after the first inning.
-Seven Cavaliers had at least one hit in the third game, While 
Matt Frye had two hits. The Cavs left six runners on base and could not find the big hit they needed to get back into the game.
 
UP NEXT
The Cavaliers will travel to Concord University for a Wednesday afternoon matchup, wrapping up a nine-game road trip that featured six games against top-25 opponents. They will then return home for a seven-game homestand, beginning with a three-game series against Newberry scheduled for Friday and Saturday.
