WISE, VA – UVA Wise, receiving votes for the second consecutive week in the ABCA Coaches Poll and the DIIBaseball.com Poll, made a statement on Friday afternoon at Stallard Field by taking down the nationally ranked Catawba College Indians 12-2 in a run-rule seven inning victory in game one. The Cavaliers dropped a pitchers' duel in game two 2-0.

GAME ONE:
- The Cavs scored early and often in game one, putting up five runs in the first inning. The first five batters that the Cavs sent to the plate came around to score.
DJ Dickson launched a 2-run homerun, followed by a
Jaden Ruehling 2 RBI triple.
- In the second inning, Josh Morgan added an RBI double, extending the Cavalier lead to 6-0.
- UVA Wise starter
Spencer Powell allowed just a single run in the 3
rd and 4
th innings to earn the win on the mound. Powell allowed just 6 hits in his 6 innings of work, striking out 6 to earn his second win of the season.
- In the fifth inning
Jake Smith destroyed his team leading sixth home run of the year, driving in three more runs and extending the Cavalier lead to 9-2.
- Josh Morgan added yet another insurance run with his team leading 21
st RBI of the year, with a 6
th inning opposite field blast.
- The Cavaliers plated two more in the 7
th to finish off the run-rule victory over the defending Southeast Region Champs.
GAME TWO:
- In game two, UVA Wise Starter
Houston Sarvis was magnificent for the Cavs as he hurled 5 innings, allowing just one earned run, on four hits, with no walks and seven strikeouts.
- Catawba scored first by stringing together two, two-out singles to score the first run of the game in the 4
th inning, which would ultimately be the difference.
- The combination of
Bo Trantham,
Ethan Willis, and
Ryan Whitson allowed just one unearned run over the final two innings.
- Payne Stolsworth picked up his fifth win of the season for Catawba, holding the Cavs to just two hits, courtesy of
Joshua Morgan and
Jeb Hurst.
