Snider Shines as Cavalier Pitching Leads the Way to Series Victory

WINGATE, NC – UVA Wise pitchers combined to throw nine shutout innings, allowing just three hits, as the Cavaliers clinched their season opening, South Atlantic Conference weekend series victory, with a 3-0 road triumph Saturday night. Starting pitcher Justin Snider shined on the mound while Morgan Miller drove in two runs to lead the Cavalier offense.
 
This marks the first time that UVA Wise, since joining the South Atlantic Conference, has won their season opening conference series.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
-Senior Justin Snider started the game and fired six strong innings allowing just two hits while striking out five to earn his second win of the season.
-Seniors Nash Bingham and Daniel Kanagy combined to finish the game with three innings in relief, allowing just one Bulldog hit, as Kanagy picked up his third save of the season.
-Junior Jaden Ruehling had two hits for the Cavaliers and scored two of their three runs.
-Morgan Miller picked up his first RBI in the second inning, legging out a fielders' choice with the bases loaded, driving in Ruehling. In the sixth inning, following a Ruehling stolen base, Miller picked up his second RBI of the day with a sacrifice fly to centerfield.
-Jacob Boyle reached base three times in the series finale, with two hits and a walk.
-The Cavalier defense committed just one error in their back to back wins the clinch the series.  
 
HEAD COACH BRANDON COSTA ON THE WEEKEND SERIES VICTORY:
"We played clean baseball. The pitching staff did a great job of keeping a solid offense off balance. I am really proud of the way the guys competed all weekend to earn two good team wins."
 
UP NEXT
The Cavaliers will host King University on Tuesday in non-conference action, before turning their attention to Lincoln Memorial to kick off their home slate of South Atlantic Conference games.
