WINGATE, NC – Strong pitching and timely hitting led UVA Wise to a game two victory and a split to start the 2025 South Atlantic Conference slate. The Cavaliers were victorious over Wingate for the first time in program history.

GAME ONE:
-The Cavaliers managed just three hits in game one of the double header.
Nick Badgett,
Morgan Miller and
Jeb Hurst had hits for UVA Wise.
-Wingate Starting Pitcher Carson Morton threw a gem with seven strong shutout innings to earn the win.
-The Cavalier defense got off to a shaky start on the road, committing three errors leading to three on the Bulldog's seven runs.

Spencer Powell suffered the loss for the Cavaliers after throwing five innings and allowing four runs, only one of which was earned.
GAME TWO:
-UVA Wise pitching, defense, and timely hitting was the story of game two. Cavalier starting pitcher
Houston Sarvis turned in a third consecutive solid start for the Cavs, throwing four innings while allowing just one run on four hits.
-Wingate maintained their one run lead until the sixth inning.
DJ Dickson led off the sixth inning by reaching on a hit-by-pitch and moved to second on a stolen base. Josh Morgan stayed hot for the Cavs as he singled up the middle. A two-out walk of
Jacob Boyle loaded the bases and set the stage for
Matt Frye who singled up the middle driving in both Dickson and Morgan, giving the Cavaliers the 2-1 lead, which they would not relinquish.

Bo Trantham earned his third win of the season out of the bullpen for UVA Wise. Trantham entered the game with a runner on first and no outs in the fifth, retiring three bulldogs in order. In the sixth inning, the southpaw escaped a two-on two-out jam with a massive strikeout to end the inning.

Ryan Whitson came on in the seventh and worked around two walks, finishing off the Bulldogs with a strikeout to earn his first save of the season.
