JEFFERSON CITY, TN – The UVA Wise men's basketball team battled back from nine points down with four minutes left to tie the game with 48 seconds remaining, but a game winning three-pointer bounced off the rim and Carson-Newman held on for the 67-65 South Atlantic Conference victory Wednesday evening in Holt Fieldhouse.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- The first half opened with the Highland Cavaliers taking an early lead on an
Evan Ramsey jumper, assisted by
Kam Roberts, at the 19:24 mark. However, the Eagles countered with an 11-0 run. A pair of baskets by Roberts helped cut the lead to one. The teams then traded baskets until the Eagles slowly pulled away late to end the half with a 32-25 advantage.
- In a tightly contested second half, UVA Wise outscored Carson-Newman 40-35, but it all came down to the final minute. The Eagles came out shooting to open the half and built the lead to 43-28 within the first two minutes. From that point on, baskets from Roberts and
Patrick Shelley helped the Highland Cavaliers chip away at the lead until a
Yoro Diallo tip-in tied the game at 63-63 with 48 seconds remaining. The Eagles then went down the court and, after a timeout to set up a play. The play was busted by the Cavalier defense, but C-N's Keliese Frye gathered a deflected pass in the paint and laid it in for the lead with 21 seconds remaining. The Cavs brought the ball down the court quickly, but a game-winning three-pointer by
Kolier Pruett bounced off the back of the rim and the Eagles grabbed the rebound. They hit both free throws to extend the lead to four and the Cavs scored a late basket but were unable to get the ball back before time expired and the Eagles escaped with the 67-65 win.

Kam Roberts led the Cavs with 24 points, seven rebounds, and three assists.

Evan Ramsey scored eleven points and also had four rebounds and three assists.
