HOW IT HAPPENED
- Baskets from Caroline Mullins, Alissa Cheek, and Madison Looney put the Cavs ahead 8-2 early. Alissa Cheek added to the Cavaliers' advantage with a fastbreak layup, and Shelby Higgins closed the quarter with a layup, giving the Cavs an 18-14 lead at the end of the first quarter. They extended the lead to seven points twice and led 18-14 at the end of the first quarter.
- Young Harris gained momentum in the second quarter, outscoring UVA Wise 22-12. Chassidy Fedd's layup at 8:31 initiated the scoring for the Mountain Lions, while Laia Hernandez followed with a 3-pointer shortly after, assisted by Lilly Griffith. Looney responded for the Cavs with a jumper at 7:46, assisted by Cheek, briefly giving her team a lead. However, Young Harris regained control with a small run that put their lead out to six points and they held that advantage at the half.
- The Mountain Lions maintained their lead in the third quarter, fueled by effective shooting and tight defense. Malone opened the quarter for Young Harris with a layup at 9:30, contributing to a 22-point quarter for the home team. Bates was instrumental, notching a 3-pointer and sinking crucial free throws to keep the Cavs at bay. Despite Looney and Nienaber's efforts, each contributing with a 3-pointer and multiple layups, the Cavs trailed 58-43 by the end of the quarter.
- Kyndra West opened the scoring for the Cavs in the fourth quarter with a 3-pointer at 9:28. Despite a strong effort from Looney, who added eight points in the quarter, UVA Wise could not close the gap. The Mountain Lions capitalized on turnovers and free throws to go on to the 78-62 victory.
