HOW IT HAPPENED
- Bluefield State scored first as Myles Pierre's jumper at the 19:20 mark set the pace. The Cavaliers responded, leveling the score at 6-6 with
Kam Roberts' jumper at 16:10. The teams traded baskets for the next few minutes, with BSU cutting the score to 16-15 with 7:34 remaining and eventually taking a 27-26 lead with 2:31 left. Baskets by
Hensley Ward,
Patrick Shelley and
Anderson Cummins gave the Cavs the lead late, until
Cy Hardy's last-second jumper secured a 34-29 lead for the Cavs at the end of the first half.
-
Yoro Diallo helped spark a UVA Wise run with both defensive rebounds and assists, including an assist on
Evan Ramsey's fast-break dunk at the 17:00 mark.
Patrick Shelley was active offensively, scoring multiple times in the paint, highlighted by a layup that extended their lead to 46-37 with 14:44 remaining. Despite the Big Blues' efforts, including a 3-pointer by Pierre to close the gap to 46-41, the Cavs' consistent scoring and defensive rebounds enabled them to go on a 10-0 run midway through the half and break open the game. The Blues made a small run themselves to cut the lead to 64-58 with 2:16 remaining, but the Cavs shot back out to a 10 point lead and went on for the 71-61 win.
