WISE – The UVA Wise men's basketball team were thankful for their scoring this Thanksgiving weekend as they had a cornucopia of points in their 146-55 win over the Virginia University of Lynchburg Saturday afternoon on the Quillen Court.

Several new school records were set in the victory, which was a final non-conference tuneup for the Cavs, who open South Atlantic Conference play next week.

The Cavaliers showcased a strong performance with 42 assists and 80 points in the paint.

INSIDE THE MATCHUP
Result: UVA Wise 146, VUL 55
Records: UVA Wise (6-1), VUL (0-10)
Location: Wise, Virginia | The Quillen Court in the David J. Prior Convocation Center

HOW IT HAPPENED
- UVA Wise dominated the first half against the Dragons, opening with a layup by Evan Ramsey at the 19:40 mark. The Dragons tied the score on their next possession with a layup from David Todd. A pull-up jumper by Yoro Diallo then sparked a 10-2 run. Patrick Shelley and Anderson Cummins then hit key 3-pointers to extend their lead. Turnovers by the Dragons and extremely hot shooting in the first half by UVA Wise (72.9 percent from the field 69.2 percent from three-point range) led to a series of big runs. Ramsey's scoring inside and a defensive stand, including several blocks, helped the Highland Cavaliers secure a commanding 82-30 lead by the end of the half.
- The Cavs maintained a strong lead throughout the second half against Virginia-Lynchburg outscoring the Dragons 64-25 for the period. Kam Roberts opened the scoring with a dunk at the 19:22 mark and added two free throws shortly after. Max Lidman and Hensley Ward contributed with three-pointers, further extending the lead. Kolier Pruitt provided a Sportscenter highlight around the 14:26 mark as he rebounded a missed Cavalier three-pointer with one hand in mid-jump and threw it down in the same motion. He followed that up with a steal and another dunk seconds later. Cole Caywood and Caden Giles effectively controlled the paint with multiple rebounds and put-backs. The Dragons' efforts, highlighted by Zaquavious Baker's three-point shooting, were insufficient to close the gap, resulting in a dominating 146-55 final score for UVA Wise.
