JOHNSON CITY, TN – The
Gary Bass era at UVA Wise officially started Saturday afternoon as the Highland Cavaliers made the short trip to Johnson City, Tennessee, to face East Tennessee State.
The Buccaneers, who are picked to finish fifth in the Southern Conference, proved to be a tall challenge for the Cavs as they scored on their first possession following a UVA Wise turnover and tacked on another score to lead 14-0 after the first quarter.
They would add to the score with six more touchdowns and two field goals to pick up their first win of the season by a 61-0 score.

- The Bucs had 614 total yards of offense, including 254 yards rushing and 360 passing yards.
- Jaylen King went 16-17 passing for 186 yards and four touchdowns. Gino English was 7-12 for 141 yards and a touchdown.
- Bryson Irby led the team in rushing with seven carries for 71 yards.
- Cameron Lewis led the ETSU receiving corps with four catches for 51 yards, while Jonathan Burns had three catches for 76 yards.
