Bradley Dean sparked a Cavalier 12-2 run to over a four and a half minute span to tie the game at 16-16. Catawba would retake the lead only to see the Cavs tie it up again several times before they pulled out to a 33-26 lead with 3:39 left. UVA Wise then went cold from the field, only hitting a pair of free throws and one field goal for the rest of the half. Catawba also cooled down a lot, and only held a 38-30 lead at the half.

Catawba then took advantage of another cold spell by the Cavs to push the lead back to ten with a little over ten minutes remaining. From that point on the Cavs would cut the lead down to around 5-7 points only to see Catawba hit a basket on their next possession. They cut the lead to 76-80 with seven seconds left on a three-pointer by
Zy'Ever Wingfield, but could not get any closer as Catawba held on for the 82-78 win.
