Cavs Fall at Lenoir-Rhyne 89-72

HICKORY. NC – The homestanding Lenoir-Rhyne Bears grabbed the early lead and never allowed the Highland Cavaliers to mount a comeback as they went on to take the 89-72 South Atlantic Conference win over UVA Wise Saturday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Lenoir-Rhyne took the quick 4-0 lead, but UVA Wise would tie the game at 9-9 a few minutes later. The score remained within four points until the Bears went ahead by six points with less than eight minutes remaining, and later extended it to ten points before the half. The Cavs cut it to five with less than a minute left, but L-R hit a basket with three seconds remaining to take a 37-30 lead into the intermission.
- The Bears would expand the lead to 19 points and went on to claim the 89-72 victory.
- Tay Smith led the Bears with 18 points and ten rebounds. Julian Dozer chipped in 17 while Conrad Luczynski and Hantz Louis-Jeune each had 14.

GETTING WISE
- Four Cavs scored in double figures for the Cavs, led by Patrick Shelley's 16 points. Lav Cvetkovic' and Calen Lightford had 14 points apiece while Zy'Ever Wingfield had 13.
- Shelley led the team with five rebounds, while three other Cavs pulled down four rebounds each.
- The Cavs shot 46.6 percent from the field and 36.7 percent from three-point range.

UP NEXT
The Cavs return home to host #21 Carson-Newman Wednesday evening on the Quillen Court. They shot 84 percent in the second half but multiple turnovers allowed Anderson to hang around before C-N pulled out the 95-92 win Saturday afternoon.
