ATHENS, WV – Concord used an early run to grab a double-digit lead only to see UVA Wise come back in the final minute and force overtime. In the overtime, the Mountain Lions pulled away and held on for the 84-78 win over the Highland Cavaliers Wednesday evening.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Abbie Smith gave CU The 2-0 lead with the first of her team-high 18 points early, but a jumper by
Katlin Burger and a
Macie Ridge three-pointer gave the Highland Cavaliers the 5-2 lead. After tying it up again,
Jalie Ruehling gave UVA Wise a 7-5 lead with 7:56 remaining in the first quarter. Concord would go on a small run and go out to the 20-15 lead after the first period.
- Baskets by Burger and
Caroline Mullins cut the lead to 20-19. The teams traded baskets for the next few minutes until the Mountain Lions made a late run to pull out to the 41-32 lead at the half.
- CU would push the lead out to 54-38 with the help of several Cavalier turnovers, but a basket by
Sable Burnside sparked an 11-3 run by UVA Wise to close out the third quarter and cut the score to 57-49.
- UVA Wise continued fighting to come back in the fourth quarter, cutting the lead to 62-60 with 5:55 left on a Ruehling three-pointer. CU scored five points over the next two minutes to extend the lead back to seven, but a trey by Burnside and a driving layup by
Madison Looney cut the lead back to two with 2:30 remaining. Another Looney layup off an offensive rebound tied the score at 69-69 with 51 seconds left. Kennedy Scales' shot missed and was rebounded by Looney. On the ensuing possession
Ella Karst gave UVA Wise their first lead since the first quarter with a layup with 32 seconds left. The Mountain Lions missed a tying shot with 21 seconds left, but Smith grabbed the rebound and laid it in to tie at 71-71 with 17 seconds left. A Cavalier three at the buzzer missed, and the game went to overtime.
- Concord grabbed a five point lead to begin the overtime period and held off UVA Wise, outscoring the Cavs 13-7 in the extra frame to take the 84-78 win.
- Smith led the Mountain Lions with 18 points and 20 rebounds. Sanaiya Morris added in 16, Scales scored 15, Skylar Davidson 14, and Imani Hickman had 13 points. Davidson also had five assists to lead CU.

Sable Burnside continued the high scoring that helped her earn SAC Player of the Week honors as she led all scorers with 24 points and also had six rebounds.

Madison Looney scored 16 points, had three steals, and pulled down a team-high eight rebounds.
- Burger had 13 points, six rebounds and three assists while
Ella Karst added in 10 points, six rebounds, three assists, and drew ten CU fouls.
- The Cavs out shot CU 41.2% to 35.4 %, while they also out-rebounded the Mountain Lions 52-48.
