ROCKY MOUNT, NC – The UVA Wise men's tennis team picked up a big win against a ranked Division III team as they pulled out the 4-3 win over North Carolina Wesleyan Saturday afternoon.
The women's team was also scheduled to play, but NC Wesleyan forfeited that match.
In doubles play, the Battling Bishops took all three flights and earned the doubles point.
In singles, all the flight but the first went to three sets. NCWU won at the first and second flights.
At no. 3,
Miguel De Rueda defeated Julian Barros 1-6, 7-6 (4), 6-1; while
Vanja Vojinovic bested Alvaro Gomez 4-6, 6-3, 6-3 at no.4.
In the fifth flight,
Dmitrii Semenov won over Brody Brice 3-6, 6-2, 6-4; and
Hsin-Nuo Hsieh defeated Francesco Raparo 3-6, 6-2, 6-3.
Both the men's and women's teams play at Chowan on Sunday.
