CAVS DROP SAC HOME OPENER

WISE - - Tre Stewart amassed 189 yards of total offense and scored three touchdowns as Limestone posted a 38-17 South Atlantic Conference victory over UVA Wise at Carl Smith Stadium on Saturday.

Stewart scored all three of his touchdowns in the first half as Limestone (2-2, 2-0 SAC) held a 28-10 advantage at intermission.

UVA Wise (1-3, 0-2 SAC) received the opening kickoff and marched 55 yards on 16 plays to take the early lead. The drive culminated with a 37-yard field goal off the leg of Kellan Dalton to put Dane Damron's team in front 3-0 with 6:15 to play in the quarter.

The rest of the half belonged to Stewart. The back gave the Saints a lead they would not relinquish when he darted in from nine yards out at the 2:45 mark of the opening quarter.

Stewart scored his second touchdown of the half when he hauled in a 21-yard touchdown pass from Dustin Noller with 13:01 to play in the half.

Limestone pushed its lead to 21-3 when Mikey Jones capped a 10-play, 76-yard drive with 8:09 to play in the half with a touchdown reception.

Jake Corkren would get UVA Wise within two scores when the quarterback sneaked passed the goal line with 2:55 to play in the half, making it a 21-10 contest.

The final score of the half would come when Stewart scored from 56 yards out on a run to make it 28-10 heading to intermission.

A 33-yard field goal by Dan Deneen Jr. pushed the bulge to 31-10 before Preston Lounds fourth quarter score made it 38-10.

UVA Wise scored with 1:10 to play when Zavier Lomax scored for the second consecutive week, providing the final margin of 38-17.

Patrick Taylor led UVA Wise with seven tackles while Nasir Howell added six stops in the loss.

Chandler Matthews led all players with 11 tackles in the win while Noller finished 19-of-33 for 202 yards and a pair of scores.

Next week, the Cavaliers travel to nationally ranked Lenoir-Rhyne in a 2 p.m. kick.
