WISE — UVA Wise finished out the regular season in triumphant fashion taking down Catawba by a 14-7 score while celebrating seniors Katie Allen, Kameryn Darrington, Jordan Edwards and Kaila Lacey on Saturday afternoon, April 22 inside Carl Smith Stadium.
Scoring came at the 9:30 mark of the first period as Grace Golatt drove to the goal on her own to put the Cavaliers (10-6, 6-4 SAC) on the board. Catawba (3-14, 1-9 SAC) pushed right back in response with a goal three minutes later, but UVA Wise would get the final notch in the period as Abby Stoffelen took advantage of the free-position shot with 12 seconds to go to take a 2-1 lead.
UVA Wise found their rhythm in the second period with three consecutive goals in the first nine minutes back at play. Catawba added two more goals in response to cut the lead in half, but Kaila Lacey, Mallory Trimble, and Katie Allen all found their way to the net to grab a convincing 8-3 lead going into the locker room.
Out of the break, Lacey made her mark once again with a woman-up goal to push their lead to six goals with 12:32 left in the period. Caitlyn Schultz added to the damage a minute later to push the lead to 10-3. By the end of the period, UVA Wise had put up a seven-goal edge.
In the final period, Anna Claire Watt added her name to the stat line with a goal at the 8:18 mark while defender Kameryn Darrington closed out her final year as a Cavalier with her first goal of her career with 1:18 left to go to solidify the 14-7 victory.
Golatt, Lacey, Trimble, Allen, and Schultz each put in a pair of goals to lead Cavalier scoring. Darrington led with four groundballs and four caused turnovers.
Veteran Edwards made five saves in goal for the Cavaliers.
Up next, UVA Wise will head into the postseason hosting the Lenoir-Rhyne Bears on Tuesday, April 25 with a time yet to be determined.
