WINGATE, N.C./WISE - In the team's last weekend of tennis action and last home event for lone senior Sarah Moore, UVA Wise couldn't hold off SAC opponent Wingate (0-7) on Saturday, and were defeated by non-conference Virginia State by a score of 4-3 in Wise on Sunday.
UVA Wise (7-15) jumped out to an early overall doubles point win with wins from the Antonella Campodonico/Constanca Azinhaga duo at No. 1 (6-0) and the Lucy Cunliffe/Emily Conn duo at No. 3 (6-0).
In singles play, Campodonico snagged an early No. 1 win by an 8-1 score. Azinhaga added to her successful day with a win of her own in the No. 2 spot by an 8-1 score.
From then on, Virginia State (11-3) would swipe the remaining singles wins - with Cunliffe falling by a close 8-6 score against Ginger Johnson in the No. 3 spot.Â
UVA Wise finished the year off with a 7-15 overall record and a 1-11 finish in conference play.
