CAVALIER TENNIS DOWNED BY RAILSPLITTERS

WISE — The UVA Wise men's and women's tennis squads weren't able to hold off the Railsplitters on Wednesday night, falling by scores of 6-1 and 7-0 at the Jim & Betty Humphreys Tennis Complex.

WOMEN'S TENNIS
UVA Wise (7-13, 1-10 SAC) began doubles play with a strong win decided by a tiebreaker from the Antonella Campodonico/Constanca Azinhaga duo.

The Cavaliers would lose the next two doubles spots, but Lucy Cunliffe and Madison Ramey just nearly fell short by a 7-5 score in the No. 3 spot.

The Railsplitters (9-10, 4-7 SAC) would take the win in all six singles matchups. In the No. 1 spot, Azinhaga battled back in three sets but eventually took the loss to S. Aray by scores of 4-6, 6-3, 6-2.

MEN'S TENNIS
UVA Wise (9-12, 0-11 SAC) also snagged an early doubles win by the duo of Miguel De Rueda and Gustavo Marangoni. Despite the triumph, Lincoln Memorial (13-9, 6-5 SAC) would take the overall doubles point.

In singles play, Marangoni would be the sole Cavalier to find a victory in the No. 6 spot. Marangoni took down S. Aranzeta by a score of 8-5.

Among singles play was a tough effort from Dominik Thuri-Nagy in the No. 1 spot who forced a tiebreaker in the second set, but fell in the final set 7-5.

Up next, UVA Wise will head to Wingate on Saturday, April 15 to finish the conference slate. First serve is slated for 11:00 AM.
