GAFFNEY, S.C. - - Limestone completed a three-game sweep of UVA Wise with a 14-8 win at Founders Stadium Monday. The victorious Saints took advantage of 12 walks and lined 11 hits to keep their South Atlantic Conference Tournament hopes alive.
Limestone (15-23, 7-11 SAC) outscored UVA Wise (13-27, 3-15 SAC) 10-to-1 from the fifth inning on to claim the win.
The Saints came to bat trailing 7-4 in the bottom of the fifth when the hosts turned on the offense.
Wyatt Stone and Dylan Turner had RBI hits to cut the deficit to one in the fifth before a squeeze bunt from Peter Reel knotted the score later in the frame.
An inning later, Noah Love tripled in Peter Adams and Zach O'Malley knocked in a run to put the home team on top 9-7.
Things continued to roll for the Saints with a five-run seventh inning. A pair of bases-loaded walks plated a pair of runs before a three-run triple off the bat of Grayson Troyer supplied the knockout blow.
D'Sean Prinkleton lined an RBI double in the ninth to provide the Cavaliers' eighth run of the game but, it would be all UVA Wise would get.
Brandon Costa's team went toe-to-toe with the Saints in the early going and built a three-run lead by getting multiple hits in four of the game's first five innings.
Cole Harness singled home Nick Badgett in the first before DJ Dickson lined a two-run homer in the third, the visitors scored three times in the fourth on a run-scoring hit by Badgett and a two-run double by Prinkleton. The fifth saw some two-out lightning as Jeb Hurst doubled and Gavin Birkhimer singled after two were out in the frame.
Prinkleton led all players with three hits while Badgett, Dickson, Harness and Birkhimer had two hits each, accounting for 11 of UVA Wise's 12 hits in the loss.
Love led all players with four runs scored with Troyer, Love, Adams and Dylan Shugan having two hits for the winners.
The Cavs will return to action Wednesday in a non-conference affair. First pitch from Bluefield State is slated for 3 p.m.
