HARROGATE, TENN. — Newberry swiped away two 7-0 wins against the UVA Wise men's and women's tennis teams today at the LMU indoor facility today, March 11.
WOMEN
Newberry (12-1) would use the talents of duo Zulay Castaneda and Nastassia Chamoun to take a 6-1 win over No. 1 Doubles duo Antonella Campodonico and Constanca Azinhaga. Newberry would find their way in No. 2, but Amelia Monteith and Emily Syms would put up a 6-4 fight and finalize a No. 3 Doubles triumph.
The Wolves would come out victorious in all singles matchups. Lucy Cunliffe would just barely accept defeat with a 9-7 score to Newberry's Ish Singh.
MEN
Vanja Vojinovic and Pierre Djaroueh would find a pathway to a win in No. 2 Doubles in 7-5 fashion, but would be the only victory for the Cavaliers in doubles play.
In singles play, No. 1 spot Dominik Thuri-Nagy would force a tiebreaker but would eventually fall to Newberry's No. 1 player Mateo Bivol (6-3, 4-10).
Marcel Schomburg of Newberry would just barely find a 6-3, 7-5 win over Miguel De Rueda at No. 2.
Newberry would swipe the rest of the singles matchups, with Gustavo Marangoni forcing a third set.
