WISE - - No. 13 UNC – Pembroke completed a three-game sweep of UVA Wise with an 18-8 win at Stallard Field Saturday. The victorious Braves lined seven extra-base hits as part of a 17-hit effort to push their season-opening winning streak to six games.
UNC – Pembroke (6-0) scored in every inning but the ninth as the visitors broke open a 9-7 contest with a five-run fifth inning.
In the decisive inning, Joey Rezek lined a three-run homer to effectively put the game out of reach.
UVA Wise (0-7) saw Justin Reed hit a three-run homer, his first of the year, while Cole Harness and Hunter Meador had three hits each.
The Braves' Christian Jayne led all players with four hits and four RBI with the Cavs' Kyle Hoeth walking four times in the contest.
Next up, UVA Wise travels to King University Wednesday for a single nine-inning contest. First pitch is slated for 2 p.m.
