Box Score KNOXVILLE, Tenn. - The headline says it all, UVA Wise men's tennis holds on to its unblemished record with a commanding 7-0 victory over Johnson University.
Doubles play was once again kind to UVA Wise, as it was a clean sweep in favor of the Cavaliers.
Singles play saw no changes in performance from either side. UVA Wise swept play with each of the six matches being decided in straight sets.
Freshman Yi-Hsuan Chen kicked things off on the right foot for the Cavs with a victory over sophomore Ignacio Gamarra, 6-3 and 7-6(7-3). Chen's second set victory marked the only match to be decided in a tiebreaker on the day. Fellow freshman Daniel Gonzalez Garza continued the Cavs success with a convincing defeat of freshman Carlos Benjamin Barrios Zaracho, 6-0 and 6-1.
Junior Vanja Vojinovic took care of his challenger, senior Noah Brown, 6-0 and 6-4. Senior Gustavo Marangoni took care of business in dominant fashion against freshman Pedro Ozelim, 6-0 and 6-1.
To bring the winning day to a close for UVA Wise freshman Diego Pedrero defeated junior Jacob Keeling, 6-1 and 6-1, and freshman Ayaan Tezabwala dispatched sophomore Mason Wrisley, 6-2 and 6-0.
Yet another dominant display from the Highland Cavaliers and the men's tennis team pushes its unbeaten run to open the season to eight, as the team heads into winter with an 8-0 record.
