WISE, VA — UVA Wise was unable to usurp a late Limestone comeback in the first set in tonight's conference matchup, eventually falling to the Saints by a score of 3-0 (23-25, 18-25, 22-25)
The Cavaliers (3-7, 0-6 SAC) had pieced together a 16-11 lead in the first set thanks to five kills from Cassidy Farley.
Mia McMillen of Limestone (5-3, 2-3 SAC) led her squad in a comeback effort, snagging six consecutive points off of three kills and Cavalier miscues. The Cavaliers had more fight left, pulling away to a 22-18 lead before Saint Rothani Allen led a five-point run to jump ahead by one. Bailey Conner slammed one more down to get her team to 23, but a UVA Wise error and a kill from Kasey Thacker solidified a 25-23 Limestone win.
Looking to redeem themselves, the Cavaliers came out swinging and jumped to a 4-1 lead with help from Kaylee Scarce and Adison Minor throwing down a kill each in the effort.The Cavs maintained their lead until the tenth point, when a UVA Wise service error and two attack errors gave the Saints a 12-10 lead. Lauren Montes put in the work with the help of Piper Suddeth to keep the Cavs close, but the Saints finished with the win, 25-18.
In the third, both squads were neck-and-neck once again throughout the majority of the set. It wasn't until a kill from Allen that sparked a four-point Limestone run to take them into the win; 25-22.
Farley secured a season-high seven kills and .400 hitting percentage on the night, while Scarce led her squad with a total nine kills in the matchup.
Both teams hit under .200, as Limestone put up a .178 hitting percentage and UVA Wise put up .117.
Limestone's McMillen put up a double-double of 11 kills and 24 digs.
The Cavaliers head to Lenoir Rhyne on Saturday, Sep. 24 for their next conference matchup. First serve is slated for 2:00 PM.
