CHARLESTON, W.Va. - - UVA Wise opened the men's golf season with a 14th place finish with a team score of 632 at the University of Charleston Invitational held at Edgewood Country Club. Glenville State College took home the team crown with a team tally of 570 while Charleston's Paul Sanchez was the individual champion with a score of 139.
Freshman Baden Clever was the top finishing Cavalier in his first collegiate event. The Telford, Tenn. native shaved six strokes off his round one score of 81 to post a 75 on day two en route to tying for 63rd place. Sophomore Peyton Wilson fared better on day two as well as the Lebanon, Va. product knocked five strokes off his day one score of 82 to post a 159 and finish tied for 76th with teammate Jack England. England had the lowest round score of any UVA Wise golfer as the Central High School graduate fired a 74 in round one.
Freshman Evan Loftis continued the trend of Cavs playing better on day two as the native of Canton, N.C. shot an 80 on day two after shooting 84 on day one to tie for 85th.
Evan Blanton finished 92nd by trimming 10 strokes off his day one tally of 89 to shoot a 168.
Next up, the team will compete in the King University Invitational on September 26.
