WISE - - UVA Wise senior Tyler Campbell had a record-setting 2022 season as he established the new single-season record for home runs with 16. The East Bend, N.C. added to his resume Wednesday when the South Atlantic Conference announced he had been named Third-Team All-SAC designated hitter in a vote by the league's coaches and conference office.

Campbell posted a .319/.412/.650 slash line en route to 16 homers and 49 RBI this spring. Campbell led the team in both homers and RBI while also having a team-best 104 total bases.

The designated hitter earned conference player of the week honors when he led the Cavaliers to five wins while hitting .417 with five home runs, 15 RBI and nine runs scored over a six-game stretch.

When the Catawba Valley Community College transfer broke the single-season home run record at UVA Wise, he broke one of the program's longest-standing records. The mark had stood for 20 years, dating back to the 2002 season when Josh Scarbrough lined 15 homers.

UVA Wise finished the season with 18 victories, a 13-win improvement from the squad's 2021 total.
