WISE - - On a day when Tyler Campbell established the program single-season home run record with his 16th of the season, UVA Wise completed its first-ever South Atlantic Conference three-game sweep with a pair of 5-3 triumphs over Limestone at Stallard Field Saturday.
GAME ONE
LIMESTONE GOES IN FRONT
The Saints took a 1-0 lead in the top of the third when Clark Burroughs singled home Dylan Shugan.
CAVS TIE IT
A run-scoring double off the bat of Tyler Campbell allowed Bret Roberts to scamper home in the home half of the third inning.
UVA WISE GOES ON TOP
A sacrifice fly off the bat of Kyle Hoeth plated D'Sean Prinkleton in the home fourth to give the Cavaliers a lead they would not relinquish.
RECORD-SETTING DINGER
In the fifth, Tyler Campbell sent a 1-and-2 pitch over the left-field wall for a two-run homer. The blast was his 16th of the season, breaking the school's single-season record that was previously held by Josh Scarbrough from the 2002 season.
LIMESTONE GETS IT CLOSE
Joah Nelson doubled home Shugan to cut the UVA Wise lead to 4-2 moving to the bottom of the eighth.
PRINKLETON HAS WHEELS
Prinkleton split the gap in the home eighth and forced the issue by trying to stretch a double into a triple. The speedster would reach third safely and would come home on an error to push the Cavs' lead back to 5-3.
ANDERSON SHUTS IT DOWN
Hunter Anderson would record the save by allowing a run over 1 2/3 innings of work. He fanned two as he collected his fourth save of 2022.
GAME TWO
DICKSON GIVES CAVS THE LEAD
DJ Dickson's run scoring single plated Cole Harness to give the hosts a 1-0 lead in the second frame.
SAINTS SURGE IN FRONT
Limestone scored three runs in the fourth inning as Justin Greider and Brandon Billesberger combined to knock in a trio of runs.
TAYLOR GETS UVA WISE WITHIN A RUN
An RBI groundout off the bat of Clay Taylor got the Cavs within a run in the fourth inning at 3-2.
FIFTH INNING EXPLOSION
A three-run fifth inning by UVA Wise would prove to be the difference. In the frame, Hunter Meador doubled in a run, Taylor was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded and Campbell scored on a wild pitch.
BOX SCORE NOTES
David Kelliher earned the first mound win of his collegiate career by tossing 2 1/3 innings of scoreless ball while Jacob Stuart earned the save by throwing a scoreless seventh. Dickson finished 2-for-2 with a walk at the plate.
