HICKORY, N.C. — The UVA Wise women's tennis team were taken down by the Lenoir-Rhyne Bears today, falling 6-1.
 
In doubles play, UVA Wise's Liza and Katya Akimenko faced Diana Babinets and Alicia Wahlberg and were able to start off with a strong 6-1 Cavalier win.
 
In the next two doubles matchups, the Bears were able to take the wins against Emily Conn and Lillian Morris (6-1) and Sara Nichols and Anna Hupperten (6-0).
 
In singles play, L. Akimenko was able to snag another win by scores of 6-3 and 6-1.
 
The rest of the singles play matchups proved to be difficult for the Cavaliers, as K. Akimenko fell to Evgeniya Pugina, Hupperten lost to Alicia Wahlberg, Sarah Moore fell to Lucy Whelan, Grace Hall fell to Sanda Mitsou, and Emily Conn fell to Spencer Cochran.
 
With the loss, the Cavs are now 7-8 overall.
 
Next, the UVA Wise Cavaliers travel to Newberry College on March 12 to face the Wolves at 1:00 PM.
