ANDERSON, N.C. — The UVA Wise Highland Cavaliers women's tennis team were not able to hold off a powerful Anderson Trojans squad on Saturday, falling to a score of 7-0.
Starting off the day, Liza and
Katya Akimenko were paired together in No. 1 doubles to face Catherin Blouin and Lauara Alvarez Tello from the Trojans. The Cavaliers came out tough and took a 6-0 win.
In No. 2,
Sarah Moore and
Lillian Morris fell against Anna Greer and Elisa Aquirre; losing 6-0.
Anna Hupperten and
Grace Hall faced the same fate, falling 6-0 to the Trojans duo of Val Borda and Victoria Wuilloud.
L. Akimenko started off singles play for the Cavs and put up a fight against Blouin, but fell by scores of 6-3 and 7-5.
K. Akimenko was able to snag a point against Katie Robeson in the first set, but fell 6-1. In the second set, she fell 6-4 to the Trojan.
In the next three singles matchups,
Emily Conn and Moore were the only two Cavaliers to snag a point against their Anderson opponents.
In the final singles matchup,
Sara Nichols fought against Anderson's Kate Drosieko, but took the loss by set scores of 6-1 and 6-3.
Next, the Cavaliers will face SAC opponent Lenoir-Rhyne on Sunday, March 6 at 11:00 a.m.
