WOMEN'S TENNIS DROPS WEEKEND MATCHES

HARROGATE, Tenn. - - The UVA Wise women's tennis team dropped a pair of South Atlantic Conference matches this weekend. Saturday, Wingate scored a 7-0 triumph before Lincoln Memorial claimed a 6-1 win Sunday.

Against Wingate, Liza Akimenko had a near miss at No. 1 singles as she fell 7-6, 6-3 to Chloe Kosmrlj. Katya Akimenko fell 6-2, 6-0 to Alex Lopez at No. 2 singles while Anna Hupperten and Sara Nichols both dropped 6-0, 6-0 decisions in No. 3 and No. 6 singles. Sarah Moore fell 6-1, 6-2 to Jadyn Kadynk and Emily Conn fell 6-1, 6-2 in No. 5 singles to Jessica Ruetten.

In doubles action, the team of Liza and Katya Akimenko fell 6-4 while the teams of Grace Hall and Lillian Morris along with Sarah Moore and Sara Nichols fell 6-0.

Sunday, Liza Akimenko picked up a win on the weekend for the Cavs as she claimed a 6-0, 6-2 win at No. 1 singles. She later teamed up with her sister in a close contest at No. 1 doubles as the pair won 6-3. In other singles play, Moore picked up three games falling 6-1, 6-2, with Conn falling 8-1 and Hall dropping a 6-1, 6-1 decision. Hupperton fell 8-0 while Katya Akimenko was defeated 6-0, 6-0.

Nichols and Conn fell 6-2 in No. 3 doubles play with Moore and Lillian Morris fell 6-0 at No. 2 doubles.

Up next, the team travels to Newberry Friday for another SAC contest.
