HOMER HAPPY CAVS SWEEP TIGERS

WISE - - UVA Wise belted seven homers en route to a doubleheader sweep of visiting Salem University at Stallard Field Saturday. Cole Harness homered twice in the opener as the Cavaliers won 14-4 before Tyler Campbell homered twice in the nightcap to send the Tigers to a 14-8 defeat.

GAME BY GAME

GAME ONE

UVA WISE BREAKS OUT ON TOP

The Cavs took a 4-0 lead after three innings in the opener after Harness belted a two-run blast in the first inning before Bret Roberts and Hunter Meador had run-producing hits in the third.

While the offense started hot, Garrett Stiltner struck out three over the first three innings to keep Salem off the board.

TIGERS GET ON BOARD

Trey Hissam's RBI ground out in the fourth inning made it a 4-1 affair but, it would be all the Tigers would get in the inning as Stiltner would limit the damage.

CROOKED NUMBERS

UVA Wise would score multiple runs in each of its final three trips to the plate in the seven-inning game. In the fourth, Colby Welborn hit the first homer of his collegiate career before JoJo Kelliher followed with a second solo blast. Later in the inning, Roberts knocked in DJ Dickson with a run-scoring ground out.

After a three-run fifth inning by the Tigers, the hosts effectively put the game out of reach in the home half of the frame. Harness led off the scoring with a solo shot before Dickson knocked in two with a double and Roberts plated one with an RBI single to make it an 11-4 game.

In the sixth, Kyle Hoeth and Roberts each walked with the bases loaded while Dickson knocked in his third run of the game to provide the 14-4 final margin.

BOX SCORE NOTES

UVA Wise lined nine extra-base hits with Dickson lining three doubles as part of a 4-for-4 game at the plate. Roberts finished 3-for-4 with four RBI and a walk while Welborn scored three runs.

Stiltner earned his second mound win of the season by allowing four runs over five innings of work. The right-hander fanned four before Ryan Whitson and David Kelliher each fired a scoreless inning of relief.

GAME TWO

SALEM GETS THE LEAD

The Tigers struck for four runs in the top of the first off of three hits and a pair of Cav errors to take their first lead of the day.

UVA WISE BATTLES BACK

Campbell cut the deficit in half with a two-run double that plated Clay Taylor and Roberts in the home first.

TIGERS PUSH LEAD BACK TO FOUR

A run-scoring single by Alex Harper and an interference call pushed the lead to 6-2 after 1 1/2 innings.

CAMPBELL TIES IT

Campbell tied the game in the bottom of the second when he hit a grand slam over the left field wall.

EIGHT IN THE FOURTH

An eight-run fourth inning broke the game open for UVA Wise. In the frame, the Cavs sent 13 men to the plate with eight lining hits. In the big frame, Campbell hit his second homer, Dickson hit the first homer of his collegiate career and Evan Stanley tripled to lead the charge.

TENSEN STRONG IN RELIEF

Reliever Hunter Tensen pitched 4 1/3 innings of scoreless relief to earn the mound win. The right-hander allowed just two hits over the 61-pitch outing as he improved to 1-2 on the year.

BOX SCORE NOTES

Roberts went 3-for-3, Campbell went 3-for-4, JoJo Kelliher went 2-for-4 and Dickson went 2-for-4 to make up a quartet of Cavs with multiple hits in the win.
