MEN'S TENNIS SPLITS WEEKEND WITH BEARS AND RAMS

WISE, VA./HARROGATE, TENN. — THE UVA Wise men's tennis team split on the weekend against Shawnee State University (Ohio) and Bluefield College on Saturday and Sunday, as the Shawnee Bears took the win 6-1 on Saturday, but the Cavs took down the Bluefield Rams by a 5-2 score on the next day.

In the first match on Saturday in Wise, Va. against the Shawnee State Bears, Cavalier veterans Coleton Burke and Luke Jarnagin faced Zayden Rinehart and Keenen Lambert in the No. 1 doubles spot, but fell to the Bears by a score of 6-3.

In the No. 2 spot, Dominic Hoffman and John Robert Kilgore came up to face Austin Henshaw and Aiden White and battled it out in a forced tiebreaker set. The Cavs came out victorious with a 7-4 win.

In the last doubles matchup, Dylan Galenski and Siddarth Selvakumar took on Max Mitchell and Jacob Freeland, and couldn't come up with a point against the Bears duo, falling 6-0.

In singles play, Selvakumar was the only win on the day for the Cavaliers in the No. 6 spot as he took down White by an overall score of 8-4.

In the No. 1 spot, Hoffman didn't go down without a fight against his opponent Rinehart, but fell in the tiebreaker by a score of 7-4.

No. 5 singles also saw a similar fate, as Galenski fell to Lambert in the second set by a 7-5 score.

In the second match of the weekend, the Cavaliers faced the Bluefield Rams, and came out on top with a 5-2 overall score.

Jarnagin and Kilgore doubled up to face Juan Agudelo in the No. 1 spot, and the Rams took the win by a 6-2 score. Needing the next two wins to snag the doubles point, Burke, Hoffman, Galenski, and Selvakumar achieved the task by two consecutive Rams takedowns.

Burke fell to Agudelo in the No. 1 spot to start singles play. Hoffman also fell to his Rams counterpart by a 7-5, 6-2 score. Kilgore came up next, and was able to hold off Rams player Llorenc Porquer-Guzman after he fell 6-1 in the first set. Kilgore forced a tiebreaker and took a 10-7 win. Jarnagin also came through with a win as he won against Jared Hoch by a 6-0, 7-5 score. Galenski and Selvakumar were able to snag wins in the final two spots due to no-players.

The win puts the Cavaliers at a 5-6 overall record, and head to Anderson University on March 5 to start South Atlantic Conference play with a 2:00 PM first-serve.
