WISE - - The women's basketball team at UVA Wise is off to its best start as a NCAA Division II member at 4-0 and it has not gone unnoticed. Jamie Cluesman's crew found out it was ranked tenth in the D2SIDA Southeast Region Poll that was released Monday.
All four of the Cavaliers' victories have come against fellow Southeast Region schools. UVA Wise began the year with an overtime victory against Peach Belt Conference member Flagler before following the win up with a win over fellow PBC school Flagler a day later.
Last week, UVA Wise rolled to a 100-64 win over rival King before securing its first road win of the season, 77-69, at Belmont Abbey as Cluesman's crew took down a pair of Conference Carolina foes.
The Cavs are one of seven South Atlantic Conference schools in the top 10. Catawba and Wingate are tied for second with Carson-Newman checking in fifth, Lenoir-Rhyne sitting in seventh, Tusculum at eighth, Coker and ninth and UVA Wise rounding out the poll.
Overall, the SAC is 36-12 to this point in the season in non-conference games.
