WISE, VA — The UVA Wise Cavaliers are back in the David J. Prior Convocation Center to battle against Catawba College on Friday, Oct. 14.
The Cavs (4-12, 1-11 SAC) are back after a six-day break after falling to SAC competitor Anderson Trojans in an 0-3 (18-25, 7-25, 17-25) defeat. Freshman Morgan Blankenship led the Cavs with five kills while junior Cassidy Farley put up three blocks.
Anderson put up an impressive .650 hitting percentage in the match finale to solidify their fourth SAC win in a row.
CATAWBA NOTES
This will be the first meeting for the Cavaliers and Catawba in the 2022 season. In their last meeting, Catawba defeated UVA Wise by a score of 3-1 (23-25, 25-17, 25-23, 25-14).
Like UVA Wise, Catawba secured their first conference win of the season against the Coker Cobras in a 3-0 (25-17, 25-18, 25-20) sweep on Sep. 17. In their most recent match, Catawba snagged their second SAC win against Lincoln Memorial in a tight 3-2 (19-25, 25-17, 25-13, 25-22, 15-9) battle, silencing a seven match losing streak.
In the match, senior Ashley Johnson put up 12 kills and aided in the team's 13 blocks on the night.

Kary Hales: ranks fourth in conference standings for digs per set (4.28) and ranks fifth in conference in total digs (257)
Ashley Johnson: leads team in kills per set (2.52), total kills on the year (154) and total blocks (37)
Dara Kane: leads team in assists per set (6.17)
LET'S SAY...
If the Cavaliers were to defeat Catawba, their squad would surpass the 2021 season win total (4-22 in 2021). With a win, this year's win total would be the highest for the program since 2018.
