Storylines – vs Carson-newman
UVA Wise will have to figure out a way to slow down the South Atlantic Conference's leading scorer, Braelyn Wykle, when the team visits Carson-Newman Wednesday. The guard is scoring 19.3 points per game while making 45.1 percent of her field goal attempts. The high-scoring guard paces a Lady Eagles' offense that averages a SAC best 83.7 points per game. Ball movement and aggressive play has led to Carson-Newman attempting a league-most 274 free throws this season while making a league-high 192 foul shots. Inside, Lindsey Taylor has been the most prolific shooter in the conference by connecting on a SAC high 65.1 percent of her field goal attempts. In the first meeting between the two schools, Taylor made 12-of-14 field goal attempts en route to a game-high 27 points.
UVA Wise will attempt to snap a five-game losing streak Wednesday at Carson-Newman. The streak has featured a trio of near misses for Jamie Cluesman's club who dropped a 63-61 decision at home to No. 21 Wingate Sunday. The game followed an 8-point setback at No. 11 Catawba and a 5-point defeat at Lincoln Memorial. On Sunday, junior Jaymi Golden put forth her best game in a UVA Wise uniform. The guard connected on a career-high four 3-pointers while tallying a career-high 20 points. Fellow guard Nia Vanzant continued her streak of scoring at least ten in points in every game this season with a 15-point outing. Redshirt senior Kalee Johnson will have an opportunity to make more history Wednesday. The Elizabethton, Tenn. product enters the game with 1,154 points, 13 points shy of former Cavalier Chelsea Lee for 14th on the school's all-time scoring list. In regards to the game with the Lady Eagles, rebounding figures to be key. The Cavs lost the battle of the boards 48-to-32 against Wingate Sunday and were outrebounded 48-to-37 by the Lady Eagles earlier this season.
