CAVS ARE BACK, SET TO PLAY WOLVES THIS WEEKEND

COMPLETE GAME NOTES

Storyline – vs. NEWBERRY

Jason Taylor's Newberry squad has found themselves in the middle of the South Atlantic Conference leaderboard as the 2021-22 season runs through January. The 6th-ranked Wolves have won their last two games in a row as they took down the Catawba Indians 83-63 on Jan. 15, and snagged a win against the Limestone Saints by a score of 77-63 on Jan. 19. Their win against the Saints saw TJ Brown drop 22 points as the rest of the squad shot a 58% from the arc. On the season, Newberry is shooting a 41.8% from the field (which ranks last in the conference as a team) and a 30.8% from three-point range.

PLAYERS TO WATCH:

Quandaveon McCollum: The junior from Clio, S.C. averages 13.2 ppg and leads Newberry (along with Brown) in that category - put up season-high 31 points against conference opponent Mars Hill on Nov. 18, 2021

TJ Brown: The junior from Columbia, S.C. averages 3.5 rpg and ties McCollum with 13.2 ppg. Brown had a season-high night against Limestone on Jan. 19, where he dropped 22 points and hit five three-pointers.

ABOUT UVA WISE:
Head Coach Blake Mellinger and the Cavaliers are still struggling in their search for a South Atlantic Conference win as they took a tough 100-67 blow from the Lenoir-Rhyne Bears on Jan. 12. The Cavaliers only could muster up a 25% from three-point range in the second half, which made it easier for the Bears to capitalize. UVA Wise still manages to snag accolades though, as Dean snagged a career-high 20 points and tied his career-high in made field goals and Joel Pettiford whipped up a double-double with 13 rebounds and 19 points.

The Cavaliers will be coming off of a large 10-day break as their games were halted in accordance to COVID-19 protocol.
