Storylines – vs Lenoir-Rhyne
For the first time since Dec. 20, Lenoir-Rhyne's women's basketball team will take to the floor when Grahm Smith's team entertains UVA Wise in a 5:30 p.m. Wednesday. When the Bears have been on the floor, they have been the South Atlantic Conference's most prolific free throw shooting team making a league best 75.9 percent of their foul shots. Sophomore Emily Harman has sparked Lenoir-Rhyne's free throw shooting excellence and offense as a while. Harman leads the league with a 90.9 percent free throw percentage while tossing in a team-high 16.7 points per game. Three-point shooting has been an issue for the Bears this winter, Smith's squad is connecting on just 27.1 percent of their shots from beyond the arc and have made just 38 3-pointers this season. Due to the ongoing COVID-19 outbreak, fans will not be allowed to attend Wednesday's game and are encouraged to follow the contest on the radio or online via various live coverage links.
About UVA Wise
UVA Wise heads to Hickory, N.C. in search of its first road win of the season Wednesday when
Jamie Cluesman's team tangles with Lenoir-Rhyne. Most recently, the Cavaliers suffered a 70-56 home setback to Concord. In the loss, senior
Meg Crawford posted a double-double with 10 points and 11 rebounds while junior
Jaymi Golden netted 14 points. Despite Crawford and Golden's efforts, the squad was unable to overcome a 29.4 percent shooting performance from the floor. In addition to Crawford and Golden, freshman
Sable Burnside had the best game of her young career. Burnside made the first 3-pointer of her career while netting a season-high seven points thanks to a 4-for-4 showing from the charity stripe. A player to watch against the Bears could be junior guard
Nia Vanzant. A year ago, Vanzant averaged 19 points per game in a pair of wins over Lenoir-Rhyne.
