CAVS FALL TO RAILSPLITTERS 3-0

HARROGATE, TENN. — Lincoln Memorial (LMU) took down UVA Wise in Harrogate Tenn. on Friday, defeating the Cavs 3-0  (25-16, 25-19, 25-16). 

The Lincoln Memorial Railsplitters (2-7, 1-3 SAC) came into the first match strong, scoring the first point of the set and going on a five-point run with the UVA Wise Cavaliers (3-8, 0-5 SAC) only scoring two points. UVA Wise snagged a few points after the Railsplitter's run by an Adison Minor kill and and two-back to back service aces, but wasn't enough from keeping LMU's frontrunners Ketura Margaret and Kristen Moehring from attacking. LMU's biggest lead came towards the end of the set, with UVA Wise only scoring 8 points while the Railsplitters had run away with 17. Kills from Minor and Cassidy Farley kept the Cavs from falling too far behind, but the Railsplitters finished the deal with a 25-16 final score.

In the second set, The Railsplitters scored the first two points of the set right off the bat. Once again, Farley aided the Cavs in bringing them back into the action with a few kills and blocks alongside teammate  Kelsey Green, but the Cavs couldn't find a leeway and fell in the second set 25-19.

In the third, the Cavs were the ones to add to the scoreboard first with a bad serve by LMU's Katie Cardenas. This didn't seem to phase the Railsplitters though, as they scored the next four points without any hiccups. LMU took control after they hit their seventh point, as points 7-12 were unanswered by the Cavs. LMU went on to finish the third set with a 25-16 final score.

The leader of the night was LMU's Margaret with nine kills. Farley of the Cavs added seven kills to her stats, followed by teammates Adison Minor and Anna Whited with five and four, respectively. Cavalier Matelyn Gibson produced 12 digs for the Cavs, while LMU's Sevgi Koyuncu produced her own 11. 

Next, the UVA Wise volleyball team play at Carson-Newman tomorrow, Sept. 25 at 2:00 p.m. Coverage will be provided on UVA Wise's website.
