VOLLEYBALL TRIPS UP AGAINST EAGLES 3-0

JEFFERSON CITY, TENN. —  The UVA Wise Cavaliers couldn't come up with a win today against the Carson Newman Eagles, falling 3-0 (25-12, 25-15, 25-13).

The Carson Newman Eagles (7-7, 3-2 SAC) started off the first set with a kill by Taylor Adams to start the action. UVA Wise's Cassidy Farley struck first on the Cav's side, with a kill to get back on even playing field. A few defensive mistakes from the Cavs gave the Eagles an extra few points in the beginning of the set, and paved the way for the Eagles to make their move. The Eagles went on a 5-point unanswered run and kept the Cavs to a score of four points while they ran away with 13. The Eagles kept the Cavs to a total of 12 points in the match and took the first set victory.

In the second set, although Carson Newman struck first with a kill by Emmagrace Cobb, Cavalier Adison Minor came down with a kill, and two attack errors by Carson Newman's Adams put the Cavs up 3-1. The Eagle's were unphased by the trip-up, as they were able to score four consecutive points and get ahead 5-3. The match became more interesting as the Cavs were able to tie it up 8-8 after a Carson Newman service error. Once again, the Eagles were unphased and snagged five consecutive points right after, giving them the advantage at 13-8. The Eagles then pulled away in the match and kept the Cavs at a total of 15 points in the match and won by 10.

In the last set, the Eagles had three different occasions where they had had four and five-point runs against the Cavs. Minor was able to breathe life into the Cavs with a few kills to keep them in the game, but the Eagles pulled away with a 12-point lead to win.

UVA Wise's leader of the day on kills was Minor with seven. On Carson Newman's side, Cobb led the day with 10. Hayden Barton of the Eagles had 11 digs and Rylee Waye of the Cavs led with eight.

Next, the Cavs play Mars Hill in a conference match on October 1 in Mars Hill, N.C. First serve is slated for 7:00 PM.
