Box Score The UVA Wise Cavaliers men's tennis team came out victorious against the Roanoke College this past afternoon, defeating the Maroons 4-3.
In the singles, Cavalier Jake Ferner battled in three sets with opponent Zach Kriebel, but lost with scores of 6-2, 2-6, 7-5. In No. 2 doubles, Dominic Hoffman beat Roanoke's Thomas Hodges 6-3, 6-2. In No. 3, Roanoke's Hardt Lesko defeated Coleton Burke 6-2 and 7-5. Next, Luke Jarnigan was able to defeat Michael Morrell by scores of 6-3 and 6-2. Another Cavalier, John Robert Kilgore, was able to add a W to his stats after he defeated Hunter Adams 6-2, 6-1. Lastly in the No. 6 spot, UVA Wise's Dylan Galenski lost to Roanoke's Lance Beheler by set scores of 6-3, 3-6, and 6-10.Â
In doubles play, the Ferner and Hoffman duo of UVA Wise defeated Roanoke's Kriebel and Lesko 7-5. In the No. 2 spot, Burke and Jarnigan beat Hodges and Morrell 6-4. The only victory from Roanoke in doubles play was Dalton Capobianco and Adams who beat UVA Wise's Kilgore and Galenski 6-3.Â
The Cavaliers were able to squeeze out the overall match win 4-3.Â
The men's tennis team will be back in action against the Johnson C Smith Golden Bulls in Brevard, N.C. on Sunday, Sept. 26.
