WISE – Former UVA Wise men's basketball player Eric Okenchi has signed a professional contract to play for Estudiantes Concordia in La Liga Argentina.

"Having the opportunity to further my basketball career is a huge blessing," said Okenchi. "When I was home in Nigeria I always watched NBA players and other professional athletes on TV … having the opportunity to come to America to play basketball opened my eyes even more because I started seeing that it was possible to turn my dreams into reality."

The Chesterfield, Virginia native played two seasons in a Cavalier uniform. During his junior campaign the 6-foot-7 forward averaged 12 points and 6.7 rebounds while shooting 59.4 percent from the field. In his final season at UVA Wise, Okenchi posted 9.2 points per game and added 5.6 rebounds across 22 games.

"I love my team, my teammates, and coaches here in Argentina," remarked Okenchi. "I am enjoying the season and the league as well because you play against talented players and it helps you improve your game."

Okenchi is currently averaging 9.1 points and 4.3 rebounds per game with Estudiantes Concordia.
