Tornado Knock Off Cavs

WISE - - Visiting King University scored in each of the first four innings en route to a 15-6 non-conference baseball victory over UVA Wise at Stallard Field Tuesday. The win allowed the Tornado to split the season series with the Cavaliers, UVA Wise won in Bristol, 10-3 earlier this season.

A three-run second inning gave King (11-16) the lead for good after UVA Wise (4-21) tied the game at 1-1 after an inning of play.

Bennett McCann led the offensive charge for the Tornado as he went 2-for-3 with four runs scored, an RBI and a walk. Second baseman Wes Bonney also added a pair of hits as he went 2-for-4 with a pair of runs scored.

Tyler Blaum paced the Cavs offense as he lined three hits in five at bats. The final hit, a double off the wall, allowed him to tie former UVA Wise catcher with 198 career hits for the all-time lead in hits among catchers.

Tyler Campbell belted a two-run homer as part of a three RBI game for the first baseman while JoJo Kelliher scored two runs while walking twice and adding a hit in the loss.

Next up, UVA Wise will return to South Atlantic Conference play this weekend when the team travels to Catawba for a four-game set.
