SALISBURY, N.C. - - On a day when Catawba swept UVA Wise in South Atlantic Conference baseball action by scores of 11-2 and 16-3, it was senior catcher Tyler Blaum who made history for the Cavaliers.
The Mechanicsville, Va. product lined the 200th hit of his career, a hard hit double down the left line in game two of the doubleheader for the milestone hit. He is the first catcher and just the sixth player in school history to reach the mark. He later added a base hit to enter the final six games of his collegiate career with 201 hits, which currently stands fifth in school history.
Teammate Gabe Wurtz belted a two-run homer for UVA Wise (4-23, 3-21 SAC) in game one of the doubleheader while freshman Justin Reed picked up two RBI in the nightcap.
For Catawba (22-7, 18-6 SAC), who entered the series receiving votes in the latest national poll, the Indians lined 32 hits, 12 of which for extra bases in the sweep.
Zack Miller went 4-for-4 with three RBIs for the Indians in the nightcap.
