Women's Tennis Swept at Tusculum

GREENEVILLE, Tenn. – Tusculum University swept women's tennis, 7-0, Friday afternoon at the Nichols Tennis Complex in Greeneville, Tennessee.

In doubles, juniors Katya Akimenko and Liza Akimenko paired up at the No. 1 spot for UVA Wise (2-11, 0-8 SAC) as the duo fell 6-3 to the Pioneers (9-4, 6-2 SAC) Annie McCullough and Caitlin McCullough. At No. 2, junior Grace Hall and freshman Sarah Moore were swept, 6-0, while Tusculum won by default at No. 3 to gain the doubles point.

Liza Akimenko battled at No. 1 singles, but Tusculum's Annie McCullough prevailed for a 6-4, 6-2 victory. The Pioneers Emilie Hanson defeated Katya Akimenko, 6-3, 6-1, at No. 2 while Hall was outlasted at No. 3, 6-1, 6-1. Moore dropped her match at No. 4 singles, 8-2, to the Pioneers Martina Marras as junior Lillian Morris was defeated at No. 5, 6-1, 6-0. Tusculum earned another default win at No. 6 singles to sweep the match.

Head coach Danny Rowland's team will stay on the road next week to face Carson-Newman University Tuesday at 3 p.m.
