WISE - - Senior Day 2021 was a memorable afternoon for the women's lacrosse team at UVA Wise. The Cavaliers scored their first ever shutout of a South Atlantic Conference foe with a 17-0 triumph over Coker while senior Jesse French eclipsed the program record for goals scored as she netted the 151st goal of her career.
UVA Wise (7-5, 7-3 SAC) jumped on Coker (3-8, 1-7 SAC) from the start. The Cavs opened the game with seven goals in the opening 14 minutes. French assisted on four goals in the opening spurt as part of a nine-point effort.
French did not score a goal in the opening half, but found the net twice in the second half to secure the record.
The record setting goal came with 14:56 to play when the Dumfries, Va. product scored unassisted to put her team in front 14-0.
On the day, UVA Wise had a pair of players record a hat trick as Sydney Trask and Ashley Wells each scored three goals. Kattie Allen and Mallory Trimble joined French with a pair of goals each while Ellie Earnshaw, Samantha Hill, Riley Fenster, Charlotte Hess and Mallie Lanier scored a goal each.
Coker turned it over 22 times and was limited to seven shots on goal, the Cobras converted just 8-of-19 clear chances and lost the draw control battle 11-to-7.
