Eagles' Offense Too Strong for Cavs

JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. - - Carson-Newman outscored UVA Wise 32-9 in a pair of games Saturday as the Eagles completed a four-game weekend sweep of the Cavaliers with a pair of run-rule victors, 18-5 and 14-4.

Carson-Newman (11-4, 6-2 SAC) combined for 37 hits in the two-game sweep and trailed UVA Wise (1-9, 0-8 SAC) once in the two games.

The Cavaliers led 1-0 after a half inning of play in the opener as Tyler Horvath singled home Tyler Blaum. It would be the only lead of the game and the day for the visitors.

Tyler Campbell had a big day at the plate in game one as he finished with four RBI as he lined a two-run homer and added a two-run single to his stat ledger.

Six Eagles had a multi-hit day in the opener, led by Zach Boze and Kilian Doughtry who had three hits each. Carson-Newman belted a trio of homers in the game one triumph as Jordan Griffin, Daughtry and Andrew Carpenter each hit round trippers.

Game two saw the hosts jump out to a 6-0 lead after an inning of play and never look back. Matt Parkinson, Daughtry, Garrett Rickets and Micah Genter all had run-scoring hits in the big frame as Carson-Newman cruised to a second run-rule win on the day.

Dakota Sisson picked up his first collegiate hit and RBI for UVA Wise while Campbell hit his second homer of the day, a two-run shot to score Sission in the fourth.

Blaum combined to produce three hits in the two games while JoJo Kelliher reached base safely four times on the day.

The series wraps up a season-opening 10-game road trip for UVA Wise. The Cavs will play their first home games of the season next weekend when Lenoir-Rhyne visits Stallard Field for a four-game set. The series is currently scheduled to begin on Saturday with a doubleheader beginning at 1 p.m.
