WINGATE, N.C. – Women's tennis dropped its road match 7-0 at No. 13 Wingate University Saturday afternoon.
Juniors Katya Akimenko and Liza Akimenko paired up at No. 1 doubles as the duo were defeated 6-1 by Wingate's Elena Bompieri and Jessica Ruetten. Fellow juniors Grace Hall and Lillian Morris were swept by the Bulldogs Elena Gunfaus and Sarah Huynh at No. 2 while Wingate won at No. 3 by default to take the doubles point.
In singles play, Liza Akimenko was outlasted 6-4, 6-0 at No. 1 while Katya Akimenko was defeated by the same score at the No. 2 position. Hall was swept, 6-0, 6-0, by Ruetten at No. 3 while freshman Sarah Moore was topped, 6-1, 6-1, by Huynh at the No. 4 spot. Wingate won by default at No. 6 as Morris fell to the Bulldogs Jadyn Kadyk, 6-1, 6-0, at the No. 5 spot.
Head coach Danny Rowland's squad will stay on the road to face No. 19 Queens (N.C.) with first serve scheduled for 12 p.m. Sunday.
