Cavalier Men Host Mars Hill Monday

Storylines – vs MARS HILL UNIVERSITY
Head coach Vic Finora and his men's basketball team will travel to Wise Monday in the hopes of halting a four-game losing streak. The Lions opened the month with a three-point loss, 78-75, at Tusculum before suffering consecutive double-digit losses to Limestone, 100-81, and Wingate, 92-70, at home this past week. Mars Hill is currently 1-8 in both the league and overall as the Lions picked up their sole win of the season at Limestone, 74-68, back in January. Coach Finora's team is scoring 74.1 points per game while shooting around 43 percent from the field. Mars Hill has struggled from long range (30.4 percent) and the foul line (61.7 percent) this season, ranking 12th in the SAC in both categories through nine games. The Lions land in the top-five in all three rebounding categories, ranking fifth in offensive boards (11.3 per game) and fourth in defensive rebounds (27.6 per game) while their 38.9 rebounds per contest rank fourth among SAC teams. Javonte Cooke leads the Lions with 14.9 ppg while three more players are averaging double-figures. Jeremy Peck boasts a team-high seven boards per game while Cooke follows averaging six rebounds.

About UVA WISE
Redshirt junior Briggs Parris collected his 1,000th career point on the road at Anderson Saturday night as the Cavs were outlasted by the Trojans, 88-80. The Boones Mill, Virginia product becomes the 39th men's basketball player to reach the milestone since UVA Wise became a four-year institution. Parris finished with 22 points in the contest while junior Cameron Whiteside tallied a game-high 29 points and 11 rebounds for his fourth double-double of the season. Whiteside ended the night shooting 9-for-15 from the field, 3-for-4 from three, and connected on 8-of-10 at the stripe. Sophomore Drew Greene notched 10 points for his fourth double-digit performance of the season on 4-of-6 shooting while going 2-for-3 from behind the arc. The team's 77.1 ppg places the Cavs fifth in the SAC among league leaders. UVA Wise finds itself ranked third in the conference in both three-pointers per game (9.1) and free throw percentage (75.8) so far this season.
