UVA WISE HEADS TO LMU WEDNESDAY

Storylines – vs LMU
Lincoln Memorial saw its three-game winning streak snapped Saturday when Mars Hill scored its first win over the season, 61-59, over the Railsplitters. Second-year coach Devan Carter's squad has used the 3-point line and its defense in the early part of the season. Entering Wednesday's contest, LMU's defense ranks second in the South Atlantic Conference in scoring defense at 55.3 points per game. Additionally, the Railsplitters have made the most 3-point field goals in the conference (76) while making 8.4 3-pointers a night. Leading the 3-point barrage has been Irelynn Davisson. The 5-foot-6 graduate student has connected on a league-leading 25 triples this winter while shooting 41 percent from beyond the arc. LMU has also been proficient at not beating itself. The 'Splitters turn the ball over just 16.4 times per outing while averaging 13 fouls a game. The low foul count has kept opponents off the foul line; LMU opponents have attempted just 99 free throws in nine games.
About UVA Wise
UVA Wise will attempt to do something it has not done in program history Wednesday when the team visits LMU. A victory would allow the Cavaliers to defeat the 'Splitters in three consecutive meetings for the first time in the history of the rivalry. Junior point guard Caitlyn Ross should be a player to watch. A year ago, Ross averaged 10 points and 13.5 assists in a pair of wins over LMU. Center Meg Crawford has also been a thorn in the 'Splitters side. The 6-foot-3 senior scored a game-high 23 points on 10-of-14 shooting when her club took down LMU 78-63 in Wise. Junior Nia Vanzant continued her streak of scoring in double figures in every game as the guard tallied 11 points in last week's loss to Carson-Newman. The Cavs will be looking for their first road win of the season at LMU. Thus far, Jamie Cluesman's crew is 0-4 in true road games while being 0-5 overall away from the Prior Center. UVA Wise will wrap up play in 2021 with consecutive road games. In addition to Wednesday's game at LMU, the team will visit nationally ranked Catawba Saturday to wrap play before the holiday break.
