Storyline – vs. EMORY & HENRY
Head coach Ben Thompson and Wasps will face UVA Wise for the first time in over nine years on Saturday, Dec. 11. Emory & Henry will join the South Atlantic Conference in the 2022-23 year, marking themselves as a soon-to-be long-time competitors of the Cavaliers. As a D-II Independent team, the Wasps have shown their dominance against primarily Division-III competitors this year, such as their 95-61 win against Warren Wilson on Nov. 14. Most notably, the Wasps were able to take down the D-II SAC-opponent Mars Hill Lions on Nov. 29 by a score of 86-74.
Offensively as a team, the Wasps hit about 48% from the field, and bucket about 31.4% of their shots from the arc.
PLAYERS TO WATCH:
Cade Looney: Averages 14.3 ppg and leads the Wasps in that category - put up season-high 21 points against Pikeville on Nov. 23, 2021. Averages 6.9 rpg.
Gabe Brown: Averages 13.0 ppg, dropped 29 points against Brevard on Dec 3, 2021.
ABOUT UVA WISE
Head Coach Blake Mellinger and the Cavs are still on the search for their first win of the season after dropping a 84-63 loss to Carson-Newman at home on Wednesday, Dec. 8. The Cavaliers are trying to work out their obstacles from the arc, as the team is only hitting 28.8% on the year. Freshman Joel Pettiford is the stand-out player on the squad, landing the leading-scorer spot for the last three games. The 6-7 forward is second on the team in total rebounds, right behind Makai Vassell who has snagged 56 rebounds on the year and averages 7.0 per game.
